The war has severely affected access to pensions, health care and other basic services, including adequate housing. ![]() ![]() The highest severity of needs is in areas not under the Government of Ukraine’s control and in areas directly affected by active hostilities. The humanitarian community has reached close to 16 million people – nearly a third of the population – with life-saving and life-sustaining humanitarian assistance. Millions were forced to leave Ukraine and become refugees, and millions more are now displaced within the country.Īpproximately 17.6 million people – 49 per cent of the current population – now need humanitarian assistance and protection, a vast increase from more than 3 million people who needed aid at the start of 2022. Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces in February 2022, the lives of countless women, men and children have been torn apart.
